Dean first started performing in improvised theatre and has even been part of Theatre Sports “Cranston Cup”, sharing the stage with such notables as Adam Spencer and Rob Carlton. While he was good, he also realized he had a way with actors and has since been working behind the camera as both a writer and director for almost 20 years.
In the course of writing and directing numerous commercials and documentaries, he would be asked to add a “guide voice track”. Again, his ability to understand subtext and creative intent meant that what was initially a guide voice, often ended up becoming “the” voice.
Since then, his calm, relaxed manner and ability to take direction well have made him an in demand voice over artist, voicing campaigns for the likes of Nescafe, Telstra, Foxtel, National Geographic Channel, Cancer Council and others, while his unique voice and laconic Aussie sensibilities have seen him narrating series like Croc Catchers and documentaries such as Bundaberg Rum Megafactories.
Living in Sydney, he enjoys writing, theories on odd coincidences and being proactive about his procrastination – a hobby which he excels at with his two young boys and wife.
